Toyo Fujimori
Grey King | 31 | Bisexual
Full name: 藤森, 豊, or Fujimori, Toyo. Please, call her Mori-san.
Gender: Female
Occupation: Private Detective is her fancy title, especially known for missing or kidnapping cases, but she is known to take work for really anything. It is, thus, perhaps more accurate to call her a freelance worker.
Home: Ahh, she practically lives in her Detective Agency office, though some days have her falling asleep at bars, much to the chagrin of the owners
Territory: Her territory, if you can call it that, would be the Fuji Detective Agency. It even has its own fancy sign and its own floor.
Face Claim: Hinata Hyuuga from Naruto
Appearance:
••••••
••••••
Hair: Toyo has been told her hair is the color of midnight, black and yet appears to be a deep blue within the moonlight. Past that, she doesn't need to be told; her hair has grown long, to her thighs even, and is soft to the touch. She has no bangs, for all that they would barely affect her past making her sneeze, and her hair simply frames her face.
Eyes: Toyo's eyes are a pale white, there is no getting past that. People tend to focus more on the fact that her eyes are dull, however, unable to grasp an image or follow a finger, and that is simply because she is blind.
Height: 5' 4", but 5' 5" with heels.
Weight: 114 lbs
Unique Features: There are some faint scars around the bottom of her eyes, slightly noticeable due to the slightest bit of discoloration when compared to the rest of her light skin.
Body: Toyo has been told before that she isn't half bad to look at, with light skin contrasting quite nicely with her hair and adding to her dull eyes, apparently making them less difficult to look at. Apparently. Toyo can't exactly look in the mirror and check after all, no matter how much she jokes about it. She has a large bust, causing slight back pain unfortunately, and slightly wide hips, which, combined with her straight and set back and wide shoulders, give her an hourglass figure. She has a diamond-shaped face, with a few moles climbing up over her jaw line from her neck, and has smooth features. Her arms and legs are slightly toned, hinting towards her monstrous strength and her line of work.
Clothing Style: When it comes to clothing, Toyo is rather picky and predictable. They need to be made of soft fabric, and yet at the same time sturdy fabric that won't tear easily, because certain fabrics feel like torture on her skin. She often chooses to wear high collared or turtle neck blouses and shirts, aiming to appear as professional as possible, though the colors change often. She may be wearing yellow one day and then white the next day. She tends to only wear black and brown slacks however, with neat black flats. She often opts to not wear jewelry, hating how bracelets can slip up and down the skin and how earrings can swing and connect with her ears or neck, and often is startled by her own jewelry if she does. Although, she will occasionally wear a belt.
Winter has her in long coats and trench coats, as well as clinging to scarves in various colors.

Likes:
- It's not hard to guess that she loves her children, especially from the way she gushes about them after just getting a call.
- She genuinely enjoys helping people, even if she may complain sometimes.
- Gyoza is her go to for any situation; just got divorced, fired, or disowned? Well, she'll treat you to gyoza.
- She loves sake just as much, even if that leads to often...trickier situations.
- Open spaces, even if that just means ending up in a large city square.
- Wandering around at night and just taking moments to breathe.
- Getting people flustered; she can't see their expressions, but she can usually tell through the tones of their voice.
- Strong gusts of wind.
- Sounds of life, be it from a crowd or a baby laughing.
- Solving things that confuse her, or alarm her.
- Asking various people to describe the same thing, be it a pond or a building made of glass.
- Her blindness, though she rarely ever lets it show; she may like aspects of it, even the excuses that it brings, but it's a weakness all the same and it isn't one she can entirely get rid of. Even with the assistance of her sanctum, sight is something she lacks, and it's a thing that stings from time to time. She accepts it, has to after all of this time, but one should never take acceptance or resignation as fondness.
- Whispers or declarations of sweet nothings are something she has no time or patience for. It is probably the only instance that will have her talking over somebody, other than disobedience.
- Mentions of her ex-husband.
- Reminders of what could have been.
- People using her blindness as a reason to invalidate her work or arguments.
- Womanizers.
- She generally dislikes the police force and Scepter 4 system as a whole for what they have failed to do, as well as being susceptible to ego and greed.
- Loud music, as it throws off her sense of hearing.
- Underground or cluttered spaces in buildings.
- Empty promises or threats leave her disappointed.
- Apples and soda, as much as she loves gyoza and sake even.
- Cars, as her brother died in one.
- Toyo is often underestimated due to her blindness and her apparent easygoing nature. She's a King, yes, but many people only see the blind woman part of her until it's too late. Toyo, on her part, does little to dissuade that impression, perhaps even supports and feeds it, until the need for violence arises. Then she is all too happy to demonstrate how much more she is than just a blind woman.
- Generally observant and good at reading people for all that she cannot see their expressions. But there are tells that can also be heard, smelled, and felt, and that is all Toyo needs.
- She has trained herself so that no normal human would be able to pick up on her footsteps and movements, escaping even her heightened sense of hearing, when she truly tried. Some strains and Kings would notice, because they are just as abnormal as she is, but those with normal hearing will miss her completely if she wants them to.
- Her lack of sight, while compensated for by heightened senses, is something that digs at her everyday and everynight, and it is one of the easiest ways to hurt her. It also makes paperwork extremely difficult, which is why she invested in a fancy audio to page computer early on.
- Perhaps her attachment to those she considers family could be a weakness to a certain degree. No, Toyo will not throw her life away for just anybody, even if she likes helping people, but she would protect her family with all of her being, even if she were on her knees or bleeding out, so long as they wanted it. So long as they considered themselves to be hers and her to be theirs, Toyo will drive herself to the ground for them. Her clan, her children, her friends, they could ask for something and she would tease, but the next moment would have her doing her best to deliver, so long as it's reasonable or achievable.
- Being underground or in clustered rooms, filled to brim with items. Call her claustrophobic, sure, but it is something she cannot stand, and it weakens the scope of her sanctum enough where she'd rather do without.
- Fear - It is one of her deepest fears that her children will resent her, hate her enough where her calling will have her only listening to voicemails. She would understand, hard not to when she's their mother and when they deserve so much more, but it's still something that can keep her up at night or needling them for a handful more minutes of talking on the phone. It is another fear that they will be hurt by someone looking to damage Toyo, and she does not know if she could survive that outcome without losing her sanity.
- Secret - Nobody but Toyo or her sister know of this, but Toyo has tortured before, has killed before, and regrets very little of those actions. No, once she acts, all she can do is take the world in stride, and accept what she has done. In fact, if given several repeats or chances, she would do it again every time. What she regrets is that it had to come to that; everything else? Nothing. The memories of it will nag her in her sleep, but as reminders more than nightmares. It is a closely guarded secret, unshared, but not out of shame, instead out of necessity.
- Wrings hands around her cane when stressed or worried
- Often records her or the contacts themselves saying a name repeatedly. When it's her own voice, she usually impersonates somebody she's heard on TV to make it more distinguishable past the name.
- Quiet when taking something in, face fixed in a pleasant smile.
- Has a tendency to wander late at night without any company, though she also has a tendency to claim she's lost and latch onto somebody during the day.
- Gushes about the smallest of things about those she cares about to complete strangers. Or her landlord. Neither turn out very well, most of the time.
She is generally patient, willing to wait and nurture rather than push and needle, though excess stupidity and carelessness will have her gently pushing a person out the door, and is rather understanding of people trying their best. Curiosity drives her, from wondering how her clan members tick to how an action is done, but it can get to the point where it borders on an obsession for knowledge, a need to know why and how. And, despite the air-headed qualities she demonstrates in public, from pretending to be a silly, lost woman to appearing unaware of the social situation (both times proclaiming cheerily that it's because she's blind, gosh, speak instead of emote), she has a working mind behind her dull eyes, thinking of possibilities and clues to either cases or other jobs requested of her, and is scarily perceptive when it comes to people. Depending on the severity of the situation and what is needed, however, she might keep her discoveries to herself and attempt to solve it on her own, without telling anybody. Truthfully, it will not be the only information she will keep to herself, nor will it be the only time she will wander off without a single notice. She keeps the majority of her worries to herself, and is prone to only really think of telling someone where she's at hours later, when they're calling her phone. This is out of self-deprecation and slight paranoia, not wanting to burden someone or her worries being broadcasted and used against her, because while she is a firm believer of second chances, she herself is not very trusting to begin with.
Toyo is a very touchy person, willing to latch onto another person and proclaim sweetly that they should help her, she's blind. Though she does limit herself to their comfort levels, she cannot completely strike it out as touch is comforting for her, and so will end up poking or petting people uncomfortable with it for short amounts of time. With her clan, she is affectionate in her own way, becoming more excitable past her calm, easygoing front that she normally has. Toyo is prideful of her clan, and will not hesitate to gush about her members to somebody else. Combined with being overall welcome to helping people and being accepting towards most quirks and personality types, it is no wonder that many mistake her for being kind.
Selfless actions and frequent advice, however, do not outweigh the times she lies, which she will do without hesitation if it will facilitate her goals, nor the harm that she has dealt to others. The dangerous thing is that her "kindness" only lasts for those she cares about; everyone else, from the moment she considers them a threat to the public, would be disposed of with little thought. So long as it is, in her words, "for the greater good," laws don't really matter that much to her.
Background:
••••••
••••••
Birthplace: Kyoto, Japan
Family: She considers many to be her family, but family in terms of blood consists of her sister, Suzume, her nephews, Shohei and Minoru, her father, Daichi, and her children, Ayaka and Isamu. She regularly speaks to her sister and children, the former due to their brother's passing and their need for communication. Her father does not acknowledge their existence, only speaking to Suzume's husband on occasion.
History: *possible tw for mention of rape, no description, just stated*
Very few outside the government know the entirety of Toyo's history, save perhaps her family and anybody in the police force who thought to request her records and had the patience to wait for a month to receive an answer, written fancily in the corner of the papers they sent in triplicate, because Toyo so far has only ever been a suspect once, and those suspicions were cleared shortly after her interrogation, so those records never required real haste or were never considered urgent. In those records are witness statements from police reports and passing citizens, inquiries to Protective Services concerning the Tachibana household, as well as hospital and school records. Toyo herself has three copies of her records, which were given to her with little thought and little hesitation, and will happily hand specific pages away, utterly useless but a worthy response to those who think to be nosy and ask her of her life before the agency. Overall though, the records are quick and to the point, no time for emotion and anything other than factual listed wiped off as informal tidbits, and thus unnecessary, from the final draft's outline.
Anyone would know that there's always more to that than just papers, of course, unlisted nights where she wandered, dragging a hand along a fence because it was how she had memorized her way home while her aid yammered of how she simply didn't understand the point of her being in the regular class. Starry nights and careful hands softly poking at the crib, unsure and yet so loving when they finally reached soft baby hair, just finally growing. But the "important" bits are all on the small stack of pages, summarized already, but with keywords and concerns bolded and highlighted for good measure, and those are what matter.
Toyo Fujimori was originally Toyo Tachibana before she legally changed her name, the first born from the union between Misao Tachibana, deceased as of 11 July, 1999, and Daichi Tachibana. Born prematurely, five weeks early in fact, there were unprecedented birthing complications that led to Toyo's permanent blindness, which were written in the mother's record as a precaution for potential later pregnancies. She was six years old when Suzume Tachibana, now Suzume Kawaguchi after marrying into Kenshin Kawaguchi's family, was born, age eight when Kazuhiro Tachibana, deceased as of 15 September, 1994, was born.
There is nothing of their personalities in those records, nothing of how Suzume Tachibana was so loud, from the moment she was born to the present timeline, a treasure from laughs that sounded like chimes and an ache from screams and shouts that scraped at Toyo's ears. There are only the comments of teachers throughout the years, in her less than poor school reports, of anger issues and constant fights, and later the words of the police officer who found her in an alley. In those records, there is nothing of how Kazuhiro was so gentle, scared of hurting ants and pill bugs alike, and how he liked to curl up in anybody's lap and have his hair messed with. Only, of course, that Kazuhiro died in a car crash when he was six, having taken a ride with his best friend shortly after elementary school let out, from a semi who thought they could make the light.
Always highlighted is the incident three months after her brother's death, where Suzume Tachibana found her in the floor after she clawed at her eyes, which led to her brief hospitalization and a note for a therapist that the family could only afford for a month. (So shameful, looking back on it, the night a product of too many words that cut deep, too many snide remarks from bullies of how it was a shame she couldn't see her brother's mess of a corpse, too much grief and no healthy outlet for the fourteen year old junior high student available since she kept it all in, not wanting to add to the weight they all felt at their chests.) Mental instability, noted and also circled in the original hospital record stapled with the rest of the paperwork, often left ignored due to the age of the notice and Toyo's own personality. In that same year, an inquiry to Protective Services about potential neglect was delivered and eventually denied, due to neighbors in claiming that they always did come home eventually, and that there had been sitters hired to stay until certain hours until Toyo turned thirteen. (And, truthfully, Toyo would have no idea what she would have done without her mother's zany love if that claim had been accepted, because they really were not neglected back then, just poor and grieving, and work had been an escape for her parents. Toyo couldn't imagine her mother forgetting about them, not with the humming she had in the kitchen and the genuine joy in her voice, albeit muted, and even her cold father had some love in him, even if it was tied with conditions that Toyo and Suzume just eventually could not meet. And were thus, well, eventually disowned. But that's not important.)
It was indicated that her family had moved frequently, first out of Kyoto and then around the various Tokyo wards, from (shitty) apartments to (shitty) houses with large gardens and small rooms. They had just moved again, shortly before the Kagutsu Crater Incident, in which Misao Tachibana had called out of work with the excuse of needing to visit her mother, who was on her deathbed. Old neighbors in Kyoto had declared there had been a grudge between Misao and her parents, as they had pressured her into the marriage with Daisuke for financial benefits that had been out of their reach after the Tachibana family had moved away. She had been expected to have been absent for a mere week; obviously, she would never return. (And yet another funeral, small because nobody could bear to look at anything more than an arm, the only piece left of her mother, which was a sad thought for all that knew her, because she was the type to take as much space as she could, made herself larger than she really was.)
After that, it was a seemingly simple line of events, from Toyo being enrolled into a university, from obtaining her bachelor's degree, with the only snag being of an incident four years later with her sister, a victim of a rape crime, which led to her being a suspect in a murder case until her alibi was proven sound. Because really, who could get to the Western Tokyo Wards and back to the Adachi ward in under thirty minutes in really bad traffic? Not a blind woman who couldn't drive. So all suspicions were formally and officially listed as unreasonable and discharged, with the supposed real culprit being found a few days later.
(It's easy to say, voice soft and smile wide, that she hates the police; but that's nowhere in her record, no reason to allude to such a thing, because nobody in the upper offices likes to admit that they had some of their forces under the thumbs of gangs, paid off to turn away from desperate victims and families at the slightest sign of their sponsors. Fancy paperwork in fancy filing cabinets are there to reassure when it's all said and done, receipts of actions done right, and nobody likes to think they're corrupt. So there's nothing in the report of the way her sister called her on the phone, the way she clung to Toyo and dug into her own arms, nothing of how a cop looked down at them and said with a venomous voice that they couldn't help, no, she stuck her nose in somebody's business, and that was her own fault. The gang died brutally, because Toyo discovered her power hours after the initial ordeal, while leaning against the closed shower door, as added protection when nobody else would offer it, and emotions had been so fresh that control hadn't been in mind. And that was a rush she would never regret, nothing she would never dip her head in shame for. But she's not about to explain herself, and the only people who know are her sister and herself.
Needless to say, she suffered a lot when she had to work as an intern at a police station for experience, unable to look past a sneering face and look at any others.)
From there, it's a fairly thick stack of paperwork. Marriage documents, made official when she was twenty-three, and divorce documents, both concerning her marriage to a husband that lasted for a mere five years. More hospital records tied with certificates of birth for her children, Isamu Nagai, born on 14 August, 2005, and Ayaka Nagai, born on 28 November, 2006 and classified as a Risk 2 Strain. (Perhaps it is best that there's little information on this topic, of how she fell in love with a man and of how they likely rushed things, getting married when she was too prideful and figuring things out with her newfound abilities. Looking back on it, Toyo would say they should have waited until she was more trusting and less expectant of hurt, given her parents' forced marriage wasn't exactly healthy in the way they barely dealt with each other and, in the later years, took to cheating. It might have helped when he broke a promise, likely in the long run not such a big deal to others but a big deal to her, might have prevented their divorce, or perhaps only put it off for another day, another week. If she regrets anything, it is how their marriage turned out and in the way they tore each other apart with words. However, even if she's fallen out of love with him by now, she never could regret or resent her children. It's obvious from the way she goes soft, in both the face and stance, that she treasures them. If she hadn't been a King, then perhaps she could have been the mother they both deserved; instead, she is a King, and so she is a danger to them. Combined with that danger and her rocky relationship with their father, it has been agreed that she only has rights to them on holidays and holiday weekdays/weekends off from school, such as Golden Week, and otherwise can only come when requested/needed. She is allowed to, and does, call every night, however.)
After her divorce is the last of her most recent records, of which consists of legal documents requesting to legally change her name, licensing for being a private investigator, and building documents for the floor. And while those documents can't show everything, such as all of her effort towards obtaining them, you can certainly see her pride when she talks about it and when she's in the office.
Clan and Aura:
••••••
••••••
Clan Setup: Truthfully, when joining, Toyo will be the first to make sure you aren't mistaken by steering you towards Scepter 4 or HOMRA. They are more well known, after all, and, unlike Scepter 4, Aether simply doesn't have the jurisdiction for legally arresting and detaining people unless that jurisdiction is granted to them by the police or Scepter 4. Of course, Aether doesn't always play it by the legal side of things, fond of loopholes and doing things on their own terms, so that's another thing to consider. Aether is stationed at the Fuji Detective Agency, which in turn is located in Tokyo Metropolis in a business building with its own floor, and primarily focuses on either detective work or requests from the public. However, Toyo has taken in members before who were uninterested in detective work and instead either wanted to help the public or the clan.
There are various ranks in Aether, each an integral part of the Agency in their own ways. There is no set time of when a clan member may be promoted, some being promoted within the week and others within years, as it all depends on the amount of trust Toyo has concerning them, with fellow Detectives being trusted almost beyond a doubt, as well as their ability concerning their jobs. However, demotion or outright exile is possible, with a two strike system implemented; depending on the severity of the strikes, even Detectives might find themselves as Runners or kicked out.
The starting rank is Intern, and the only rank with a set time period. New members always start here, with a month to decide whether they truly want to join. In turn, they are also being tested by Detectives and Toyo, and by the month Interns are either accepted, denied, or canceled, the last being on their own part. As they are tentative members, Interns are only capable of using their aura to detect other people in a relatively small scope of area through the air. Generally this scope is the size of an SUV, and it cannot be used in areas lacking air (such as water).
The second rank is Pusher, who primarily focus on paperwork, computer work, finance, legality work, or directly dealing with clientele. Though they are the second official rank, most people are put into the third rank and so forth simply because they don't have the patience to deal with people or the required skill sets. They also often collect information through the internet or through calls and deliver that information to Runners and Detectives when needed. People will generally go to either a Pusher for requests and cases. Pushers generally do not need to worry about combat, so they're simply given a wider scope of detection, which is about as tall as a lamp post on the streets and as long as a school bus, as well as slight control over breezes.
The third rank, and thus the general point members start at after they're accepted, is Runner Apprentice, or R.A. for short. Each R.A. is assigned to a Runner, where they learn the ropes and how to deal with requests. Generally, an R.A. will deal with smaller requests, such as delivery and cleaning, when without their Runner, though they can take more difficult requests with their Runner's or Toyo's permission. They have the same scope of detection as a Pusher, but are able to use the wind to add force to their blows or swings, resulting in added strength. More experienced Runner Apprentices can focus their aura in a single object, enough where the resulting blows can dent or cut metal.
The fourth rank is Runner, which are people in charge of receiving various requests from the public and doing them for payment. This can be anything from escorting to protection services, with easier requests like cooking being handed to an R.A. Those Runners then collect the payment offered from the public and are later paid that share of profit. Runners are gifted with an increased scope of detection, about the size of a whole street, and are able to use wind to add incredible force to their blows or swings, as well as a wave of power, allowing them to fight both short-distance combat and long distance combat. Naturally, the resulting wave of air will not be as strong as the initial blow, but it can still be monstrous in its own right with enough control and power.
The fifth rank is Detective Apprentice, or D.A. for short. Like an R.A., each D.A. is assigned to a Detective to learn the ins and outs of detective work. Unlike an R.A., however, a D.A. is allowed to follow their Detective to all sorts of cases, both easy and difficult. This is to provide a thorough understanding, as well as help develop their skills. Should a D.A. be found incapable of being a Detective after a certain point of time and after an assessment, they may be demoted to an R.A. or a Runner depending on their age. Detective Apprentices have the same skill set as a Runner, as well as the same scope of detection. However, unlike Runners, a D.A. can teleport objects within their scope of detection, though those objects tend to weigh the same as the user or weigh less. These objects are still and not in motion when teleported.
The sixth and final rank is Detective. Detectives are in charge of investigating either publicly submitted cases or official police cases, as well as locating either missing people or missing items. Depending on the type of case, they either submit their findings or act on them. Detectives are highly trusted by Toyo, and she takes their opinion and words into great consideration. Because of her high trust in them, Detectives have the greatest amount of power out of all the other ranks, with their scope of detection being as wide as several city blocks and as tall as their building. They have the same capabilities as a Runner or a D.A., but are able to increase the amount of wind used in the after wave of a blow and teleport objects in motion, such as throwing knives and bullets. They can also teleport themselves, but not other people. The same weight rule, however, applies when it comes to teleportation.
Clan Goals: Aether first and foremost is a clan focused on the wellbeing of the public and each other. They focus on cases and take public requests in order to fulfill that. This means the overall clan goal is protecting public citizens, especially from the effect of other clans, despite what actions they might need to take. Their current goal, while seemingly far off from the present though definitely not out of their minds after the whole Mikoto debacle, is to prevent a Damocles Down by any means necessary.
Aura Description: Their aura is a grey color, darker than both the silver and white auras, and deadly to mistake it for something else. (Toyo supposes that perhaps one day they should team up, just to see who gets assumed as who, but she has a feeling it wouldn't be received well.) It can be safely assumed that the aura's focus is primarily on crippling offense and evasion rather than extreme defense, though Toyo herself can give the group defense so long as they stay together and don't scatter. It appears the clan's main power concerns air, with members being able to use it to add extra force or shockwaves to their blows, making a simple punch a dangerous weapon to fear even from far away. However, they also use air as a way to detect other people, making it impossible to go unnoticed if within their range and when they're focused on finding you. Higher ranking members are capable of monstrous feats on their own, and some say people can be in one place for one second and on the other side of the block in the next. With some, there's even the illusion of flight, teleporting up instead of forwards or backwards. But really, teleportation is well in their grasp, as it really is just a displacement of air within a space.
When it comes to Toyo, the first thing to be aware of is of her Sword of Damocles in the sky, a grey, curved blade with a barbed handle. It is the best way to determine how far her scope of detection is, as she limits herself based on need to prevent extreme headaches. The more it glows, the greater the scope. Without limiting herself, Toyo's scope can go through the entire city of Tokyo. This generally causes painful headaches unless she's searching for a single person she's very familiar with, through which she can block everyone out except the person she's searching for. Normally, Toyo limits herself and simply walks around. If given a description of their personality, more often than not Toyo can find them so long as they're alive. She often uses her scope of detection as a way to see in combat, despite her blindness, as she can visualize shapes that she can detect, such as buildings, obstacles, and people. It is, thus, impossible to sneak up on her when using her aura. Using this in underground areas can make her feel twitchy, since everything is even more limited by the available air space than it is out in the open on the surface.
When it comes to other aspects of her abilities, Toyo's control makes her aura devastating. By focusing it enough, a single swing of her cane can blow out glass from skyscrapers and shake its balance beams. Her control of teleportation is remarkable as well, not having the same limitations as her clansmen with weight, though teleporting other people becomes more difficult as the number grows, especially if she isn't teleporting with them. What her clan members did not inherit is her ability to constrict the air and harden it to dull and impede attacks towards where she focuses, such as herself or another person, causing blades to not be as sharp or blunt objects to not hit as hard, as well as causing that attack's speed to decrease. She can only do this in one spot at a time, and it is better used for a united group defense since it will not work well with scattered people.
Clan Description: Aether is the ever watching and judging grey clan. With a focus on public requests, detective cases, and the wellbeing of the public, Aether is open to anyone wishing to help or at least satisfy their own curiosities with detective work. However, in order to gauge the type of person they are, new members will Intern for a month; depending on that month and the judgement of both higher ranking members and their King, they may be turned away or accepted with open arms.

In truth, Toyo's presence was not needed on this case. In fact, it was simple enough that the anxious R.A. she had latched onto would have no problem; there was no real reason why Toyo had to tag along, no need for protection or wariness, or even urgency, like her presence in cases and requests generally suggested. No real legitimate reason, anyway, and certainly not one that her secretary would have accepted. But she'd heard talk of the whole ordeal from a D.A. bragging to the younger R.A. she was currently latched onto, and her interest had been piqued. "What do you see, then, hmm?" She asked the two with a pleasant smile, waving her hand in a calming motion as the two jumped in surprise and began rapidly apologizing for being off task. "Really now, I don't expect much at this time of night." Because it had been a long day for all of them, and it was well past the time that normally had them all bustling out to head home, or, in Toyo's case, into the break room to pull the bed out of the couch. "In fact, why don't you," She gestured to the R.A., hiding a smile at his surprise of being selected. "and I go out and deliver this together? And you can tell me all about it then."
The night was chilly, an expectation of winter, and had light snow leaving imprints on exposed skin; Toyo freely used it as an excuse to cling closer to the panicking R.A., laughing at his anxious mutterings. "Am I really that scary?" she had asked after he had answered her question with a rambling description, focusing more on bland details that anyone could have given her if she had asked them, but that was the point of asking him instead of the D.A., wasn't it? He rushed to assure her, as though she asked for that, but it was amusing enough that she let him off with a simple reach to mess with his hair and cut him off gently as she detached from him. With how quickly he cut himself off from talking, though, she might as well have yelled for how scared he seemed from his breathing alone. "You just recently joined, so I understand your apprehension. It's best, however, to say simple truths aloud if you cannot hide them well before we piece it together from your actions and expressions. Well, actions for me." She tittered, smiling wider as he hesitantly relaxed. She thought the other ways she could analyze him, observe him, were better left unsaid for now.
There had to be other ways, after all, to get past the gaping darkness. Her hands twitched at the thought, and she latched onto his arm again almost immediately after that thought, almost throwing them both off balance. A teasing apology was given away quite easily, more for using him to ground herself than throwing him off balance, and he seemed to take it into stride. Good, she thought, acceptance is key in their line of work. She'd have to brag about him later, maybe monitor the bets on how long it'd take for him to either get a promotion or quit. (They always had those types of things, but hid them poorly every time. Or maybe Toyo was just simply too observant to hide secrets from. Anyhow, it was amusing, especially at the end of the bet where she would add her own yen to the pile and startle her poor employees, causing some to yell in victory and others to sink into their desks while grabbing their wallets.)
They had been getting close to their destination, with her tugging at his arm lightly again, when she had heard a noise off to the side, down a barely illuminated street. She slowed to a stop, releasing his arm, much to his confusion, before she turned away from him and pulled out her foldable probing cane from her trench coat's pocket. When it straightened, she tugged on a lever to make it more stiff and to keep it from folding while she used it until she tugged on the tiny lever again. "Why don't you go and deliver those photos without me, hmm? Feel free to go home for the night afterwards." It was the least she could do after dragging him around and clinging onto him like a leech, and then ditching them when they were almost there. But her interest had passed from the photo contents, filed away for another day even, and now clung to the ominous noise she heard. He was protesting, ineffective in trying to sway her and really wasting time, a client wouldn't wait all day in an office no matter how important they were. She said as much, and he was quick to leave, new enough where disappointment was a painful threat greater than anything else Toyo could offer other than perhaps the extreme.
Traveling down the street was a simple matter at this hour, the chill in the air driving everyone inside to retire early or at least stay warm if they planned on staying up late, and it was an out-of the way neighborhood, one, she had been told, that was quite dated compared to the district that the neighborhood led to, like a rickety fence or a rope, and where they had been going to. The origin of the noise was tucked away in between two buildings, with a garbage dumpster limiting the space and likely part of the source. Everything about her was quiet, from her steps to the way she held the stick slightly in the air, but enough that any unexpected obstacles not engraved in her memory would be detected. She leaned against a house wall, searching for any noise. The faintest noises she heard were from rats and other animals, as well as a raging couple on the third floor of the house across the street. Blocking that out and focusing on the origin of the noise gave her nothing but the sound of wind brushing against paper and laundry lines in a backyard. So Toyo did the next logical step, calling on her sanctum and having the scope of the street, and she analyzed. In that space was indeed a garbage dumpster, holding a few bats even for whatever reason, but her main concern was the object next to it, as well as the liquid she could visualize from it. It wasn't human, couldn't be, but at the same time couldn't be anything else. Living humans had a different feeling to them than normal objects, and it carried through in the image in her mind.
This meant, quite simply, that they were dead.
Nobody else could be picked up in her limited scope, so she pulled out her phone and felt for the buttons before dialing 110, a sigh rushing up her throat as she wandered in and tried to hear for any breathing. There was none, only a confirmation. No heart beat, either, she discovered, as she felt for a pulse. Finally, her call connected, though she was sure they would have blocked her number if they were allowed to. "Hello, there's been a murder at block 30 in the Taito ward, please send police as quickly as possible." She was already widening the scope of her detection, searching for anxious or quickly moving people, though she wouldn't fare very well if the culprit got into a car on a main street. "Oh, and as added incentive, inform them that it's Toyo Fujimori who found the body." Couldn't quite help it, wouldn't have called if legally she was inclined to, and it was better to call now then have some poor bystander get confused and try to call the police on her instead. Plus, police tended to dislike her as much as she did them, something about pride and her being too snide for their comfort. So it'd do a lovely job of pissing them off.
